Junot Diaz Wins Pulitzer for ‘The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao’

Junot Diaz has won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction for The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscao Wao, a novel that last month won the National Book Critics Circle Prize for fiction.   1. Haven’t read it, but I plan to. Do things like Pulitzer Prizes still matter to most people?

  2. Good question. To most people, they probably don’t.

    But they can steer you to great books you might not otherwise have found. And you could argue that that’s especially important now that so many publications have dropped their book sections (so that people are getting more information about books from advertising instead of reviews). Respected prizes like Pulitzers — judged by journalists — can be an antidote to some of the overheated ads …
