Apart from serving as mayor of Wasilla, what did Palin do before being elected governor of Alaska in 2006? This résumé or C. V. appears atop her two-page listing in the respected Almanac of American Politics 2008 (National Journal Group, 2007), by Michael Barone with Richard E. Cohen:
“Elected Office: Wasilla City Cncl., 1992–1996; Wasilla Mayor, 1996-2002.
“Professional Career: Television sports reporter, 1987–1989; Co-owner, commercial fishing operation, 1988–2007; Owner, snow machine, watercraft, and all-terrain vehicle business, 1994–1997; Chairwoman, Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, 2003–2004.”

On the relationships Palin has to this bizarre anti-American nutso group, the secessionist Alaskan Independence Party (didn’t we have a Civil War to decide that sorta thing?):
The NY Times and Jack Tapper’s Political Punch blog at ABC have noted they were given bad info from the AIP about Palin’s membership, according to Alaska election officials.
But they do say Todd Palin was a member for 7 years.
And AIP officials still insist she was affiliated with them, & came to the 1994 state convention.
So Alaska is scrubbing their files to help their governor

One of the reasons I posted this quote is that it was compiled by reputable reporters before any scrubbing could take place …

I got even more worried than usual when I heard Palin say that she would be a good VP because she was an average, normal, everyday person (I’m paraphrasing, but that’s the gist of it).
I don’t know, I’m always sort of hoping my leaders will be at least a little bit extraordinary, outstanding, above average, and with a whole lot more intelligence, insight, and, you know, knowledge of the world, than the everyday person. In other words, I want them to outshine me and most everyone I know.

Yes, choosing a president is a little like choosing a spouse: You want the person to have some qualities that you don’t have to allow for that alchemy that the best marriage have. Thanks for pointing out that comment, which I hadn’t read.
