I do try to be direct (in part, out of respect for people’s time). One of my frustrations with contemporary book reviews is that even when they have hundreds of thousands of words, you sometimes have no idea what the critic thought of the book when you finish the review. I am definitely trying to avoid that (without resorting to a highly reductive “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” approach, which I don’t care much for either). Thank you for “getting” it!

A thousand thanks for pointing out the missing letter! I really appreciate it when people point out the typos, because I post such a large volume of digital copy that it’s hard to catch them all. At the Plain Dealer and other places I’ve worked, I had a phalanx of copy editors who caught some of them. And it’s great sharp-eyed visitors who help to take up the slack.
