Peter Matthiessen has won the 2008 National Book Award for fiction. An interview with the author and an excerpt from the book appears on the site for the National Book Foundation, www.nationalbook.org/nba2008.html, which has promised to post a video of the ceremony later tonight.
The National Book Awards are, along with the Pulitzer Prizes for books, the most prestigious literary awards in the United States. Each winner receives $10,000 and is chosen by a panel of five judges, which differs for each category.
