Judy Blundell has won the 2008 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature for What I Saw and How I Lied. The award carries a $10,000 cash prize and is sponsored by the nonprofit National Book Foundation. The winner in each of the four National Book Awards categories is chosen by a different panel of five judges. Check back in a few minutes for the other three names.
An interview with Blundell and an excerpt from her young adult novel appears on the site for the National Book Foundation, www.nationalbook.org/nba2008.html, which has promised to post a video of the ceremony later tonight. In the meantime the site Librarian by Day has thoughts on the finalists in the young people’s literature category and good historical context for these prizes. librarianbyday.blogspot.com/2008/11/thoughts-national-book-awards.html
