I haven’t read the book because the waiting list is so long at the library, I’ve been on it for weeks. So this is just instinct.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if Edwidge Danticat (which I have read) got something in biography. “Brother, I’m Dying” isn’t as well-written or substantial as many books that have won in this category, so it might be more likely to be a finalist than a winner. But the situation Danticat describes (her uncle’s death in custody of U.S. officials) was so awful, you could see how the judges might think she deserves a prize just for exposing it.
