Malcolm:
The odd thing is, Gibbs Smith isn't just a good publisher -- it's one has an especially strong reputation for books that relate to nature and the environment. Something just broke down here.

Unlike magazine publishers, book publishers don't usually use fact-checkers (only editors and lawyers) -- they expect authors to check their own facts. But most editors see it as part of their job to catch things a low tea that's labeled a "high tea." Let's hope this was a one-off for the Gibbs Smith, because I've admired many other books that's done.

The Internet makes it so easy to check facts about such things as high and low tea and where one ought to be standing in a thundestorm that is strikes me as odd the authors wouldn't have done their homework.

I'm also disappointed in Gibbs Smith; traditionally a very good publisher, I would expect them to employ fact checkers and/or to require something more substantial in the authors' credentials.
