I'm all for chocolate, too. There's probably a small fortune waiting for a publisher that could find a way to package a great chocolate and a great book. Why haven't any publishers thought of this?

The cost of books can get out of control, can't it? One holiday season when I was the book editor of The Plain Dealer, the big news was a picture book of Georgia O'Keeffe's paintings that cost $100. Sometimes when I look at the price on books, I think, "That must be in Canadian dollars."

Tempting books to be sure, but when it comes to books, my wife and I have an agreement: no books on Valentine's Day. Flowers, wine, cards, and candy are fine. But books, I think not, for that's where we're the most likely to max out the credit cards. We prefer being tempted by other pleasures that are, by and large, less costly.
